Emotional Support in an installation composed by autonomous volumes activated by performance. The space is separated in two different parts, each one doomed to received performing bodies.
The first sculptural element takes inspiration from an animal framework, in alert position. With its cold steel fangs and its fur, a body comes to lie there, uncomfortable, in a falling position, the breath cut by the metal. The sculpture protects by its materiality this inert body.
Facing up, the second space is composed by the fur from the animal. Offering a new position, this one comfortable and warm. Another body comes to lie down. Its neck meets a wooden neck rest, tinted, polished and carved in solid basswood. This support brings comfort by aligning the spine of the performer.
The performance takes the form of a narration. Every performance brings a new subject discussed between two performers, followed by a musical live environment. For its first edition, the emotional space was performed with the artist Ix Dartayre and took place at the contemporary art center of Ivry sur seine (Credac), by the invitation of Flora Bouteille during her exhibition TOGETHER UNTIL___ (what), curated by Cassandre Langlois in March 2022.
The different adopted positions on the sculptures modify and oppose the discourses. A lied down position, submerged by soft acrylic hairs leading to a calm and thoughtful discourse. In contrast the position offered by the metal framework brings discomfort and unstable words, therefore nuanced the dialogue. These positions offer nuance to the dialog and question our ability and capacity to participate / take part in conflicts in our communities, that involve us personally or concerns related to our identity.
How to invest our energy in fights that are beyond us?
How to live across our identity subject to violence when our bodies are exhausted? How do we position ourselves when our emotions make us inert?
How our social positions influence our discourses?
This performance doesn’t bring answers. But maybe it is a way to introduce nuance in our speeches and our fights. To learn on each other, to link with words and softness. This space offers a way to conjugate our energies.
You will talk for me, because we are one. In a movement, that I admit sometimes goes beyond me.
